Edinburgh tram project remains on track as new route takes shape

The first section of tracks for the Edinburgh tram project arrived on site this week.

The tracks were transported from storage to the Princes Street site and preparations are now underway for them to be laid later this month.

This phase of the project follows complex utility diversion and enabling works that began in February.

Steven Bell, tram project director, said: ‘This section of the work is also the first opportunity for residents of, and visitors to, Edinburgh to see what the final infrastructure will look like on this innovative and ambitious project.’

Gordon MacKenzie, City of Edinburgh Council’s transport convener, described the progress as a ‘significant milestone’ and a major step towards the delivery of the city’s ‘fast and efficient’ integrated transportation system.
