Edging towards repairs

Northumberland County Council is expected to approve major repair plans for Wylam Bridge in Tynedale, which will cost about £800,000.
The council wants to replace parapets and strengthen the deck edge on the bridge, following a triple fatality in February 2006. An inquest ruled there was no defect with the bridge, but the structure was reviewed for any potential safety improvements.
It was decided that new parapets would prevent any further accidents. The works are being included in the overall £19.38M local transport capital programme.
