East Sussex edges towards repair target

East Sussex County Council is to invest an extra £500,000 on highways maintenance for its B and C-class roads.

The money will be spent on improving the condition of the edge of the carriageway on more than 12km of the county’s roads.

Cllr Matthew Lock, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: ‘This is a great boost to our maintenance fund. It means we can carry out extra repair work this year which will prevent those roads deteriorating further.

‘It also provides a good basis for re-surfacing those roads next year, as the edge of the road will already be sound.’
