Ear-bashing for East Lindsey

A Lincolnshire council has been ordered to pay more than £70,000 in compensation to three residents over a noise dispute.

Three people in Manby took East Lindsey District Council to the High Court over 20 lorries leaving a depot at 6.30am.

Judge John Leighton Williams QC ruled residents could not reasonably have been expected to bear the noise nuisance.

East Lindsey District Council said that, while it accepted the court’s decision, the area concerned was sparsely populated ‘where we have the absolute minimum impact on our community’, and the ruling did not fully recognise this.

The council is working with its legal advisers to establish its options.
