EU wants flexible tendering

The European Parliament’s influential transport committee is pushing for highways bodies to have wider authority to strike public transport contracts without having to undertake cumbersome international tendering proceedings.
In amendments passed to a long-debated proposed EU regulation on local and regional public transport contracts, the committee wants direct negotiations allowable for deals with small and medium-sized enterprises, with an annual value of less than €3M or yearly passenger transport volumes of 1Mkm and under, instead of the €1.7M or 500,000km cut-off favoured by the EU Council of Ministers.
