Only three UK regions are to remain eligible for full regional aid from the European Union from 2007.
New guidelines proposed by the European Commission show that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; West Wales and the Valleys; and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland will continue to be ‘objective one’ zones from 2007 to 2013.

A Brussels spokesman said that Objective One funds would allow both capital investment and operational aid for transport projects.
