A drought-hit southeast England authority has appealed for graffiti-cleaning jet hoses to be exempted from water-rationing measures.
Sutton and East Surrey Water, which already has a hosepipe ban, has applied for a tougher drought order to help conserve scarce supplies. Southern England, is experiencing its most prolonged period of dry weather since the 1930s.

A spokesman for Water UK said it may be possible for the authority to negotiate an exemption for graffiti-cleaning equipment.
