'Distracting' roadside adverts to be axed

 
The Department for Communities has announced a clampdown on illegal advertisements on major roads.
Planning minister Yvette Cooper urged planning authorities to take a tough stance on those trying to get round restrictions by putting adverts in fields. The call came in a draft circular setting out how councils should deal with unlawful adverts.
A national database of persistent offenders is part of the plans to combat the adverts, which Cooper said distract many road users.
