Director highlights conflicts facing disabled

The challenges of making improvements to bus services for disabled people were highlighted this week.
Bill Campbell, operations director for Lothian Buses, told the Scottish Parliament’s equal opportunities committee: ‘Any provision targeted at any one disabled group may conflict with the needs of another.’ He pointed to the fact that providing a wheelchair space on a bus would mean that somebody who could walk with difficulty would take longer to reach a seat.
The MSPs on the committee are attempting to identify the obstacles that prevent disabled people from accessing jobs, education and leisure facilities.
