Dim outlook for lampposts

Almost one-third of all lampposts surveyed in North Somerset are in danger of collapse. Two-hundred-and-17 of 626 concrete columns tested in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon failed. The council has £100,000 in this year’s budget for new columns, allowing the replacement of only 100. A spokesman said it would replace ‘as many as we can’, prioritised by risk assessment.
