Update: DfT outlines steps for enacting bus franchising

 

Update: The Government has been defeated in the Lords on an amendment, which means a range of councils are in line for bus franchising powers without the need to ask for the secretary of state’s approval.

The Government has outlined two separate processes that must be employed before non mayoral combined authorities can get franchising powers under the Bus Services Bill.

The Department for Transport has published draft guidance and a policy statement which it says address the key issues raised during Lords Committee debates this summer.
