Delivery delay leaves Upton-on-Severn marooned

Upton-on-Severn was left completely stranded after the Environment Agency failed to deploy flood defences in time.

Vehicles transporting flood defence materials from its store near Kidderminster, more than 20 miles away, got caught in traffic on the M5 and were unable to get through, despite a police escort. Elsewhere in Worcestershire, the small market town of Tenbury Wells was left reeling from the three bouts of flooding in a month.

The main bridge into the town is closed to traffic after a large crack appeared in one of the abutments, the refurbished Victorian toilets are hanging perilously on the banks of a brook, and the streets are covered in a thick sludge.
