A £4.6M project to transform a key gateway into Leeds city centre has been temporarily halted while a new contractor is sought.
Work to brighten up the city’s Dark Arches tunnel through the use of new lighting has stopped after the lead contractor, Wrekin Construction, went into administration.
Leeds City Council is currently in negotiation with another potential supplier to continue the work and a contract is expected to be agreed by the end of the month.
A council spokeswoman said: ‘We would like to reiterate that although the halt in construction is regrettable, Leeds City Council and Yorkshire Forward remain committed to the delivery of “Light” Neville Street, as are all members of the design team.’
The project, which runs into the city centre from the south and the M621 motorway, is now expected to be completed in September.
