Curtailing the free press

London council’s are cracking down on the number of people allowed to give out free newspapers outside stations and other distributions points.
The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea took the step after 13 distributors gathered outside Earls Court Tube handing out both London Lite and thelondonpaper. Now the authority will only issue one licence per publication per stop, and it expects others to follow suit.
A spokesman said: ‘The footways here are crowded, and it only takes a few copies to be dropped or to blow away to create a lot of extra litter.’
