Credit boost for partners

A West Midlands waste-management partnership has been awarded £129.1M of private-finance initiative (PFI) credits.

Project Transform, a project between Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire, will help divert up to 427,000t of biodegradable municipal waste from landfill each year by 2020. The scheme could see a reduction of at least 34,500t of carbon dioxide emissions compared with the current scheme, and is expected to create more than 250 jobs during construction.

Each local authority involved is committed to long-term minimum recycling rates of more than 50% by 2020.
