Crash hits roads’ budget

The collapse in the property market has forced North Ayrshire Council to make cuts to its road improvement budget.

The council depends on the sale of surplus land to fund its capital programme, but the recent decline in this area has had a major impact on plans.

Capital spending for 2008-09 was originally set at £45.79M, but has now been revised to £35.87M. This has meant the roads programme budget has been cut from £1.5M to £1.28M for 2008-09 and from £1.7M to £1M for 2009-10. No budgets have been axed.
