Gloucestershire CC is taking on an additional 2,500t of salt stocks compared with last winter.
The council is also seeking planning permission to build a salt dome in the North Cotswolds, which will increase stocks by a further 1,000t.
Currently, two of the three depots – Cirencester and Stroudwater – are at full capacity, and Cannop in the Forest of Dean is approaching its maximum storage levels.
Salt will be re-ordered throughout the winter to ensure capacity is maintained at appropriate levels.
Cllr Will Windsor Clive, cabinet member for environment, said: ‘The council is taking steps to ensure we are prepared, as far as possible, in the event of another severe winter.
‘We looked closely at what happened last year, and while the lack of salt deliveries was outside of county council control, we want to be sure to do everything possible to be ready if it happens again.’
