County plans travel surveys to assess network’s needs

Oxfordshire County Council is to undertake a programme of travel surveys during the autumn, to help inform future investment in the county’s transport network.

Motorists will be invited for roadside interviews at various locations to help give planners a clearer picture of current travel patterns. The information will influence planning decisions regarding the location of future housing, shopping and employment developments, and in the long run, help reduce congestion.

In addition to roadside interviews, the county council will be visiting up to 10,000 residents around Oxfordshire to find out about their travel habits as well as carrying out traffic counts and journey time surveys. Cllr David Robertson, the council’s cabinet member for transport strategy, said: ‘It is crucial we know how people currently use our transport network so we can target improvement in the right areas.’
