County meets demands as locals have say over Way

Essex County Council has approved a plan to improve and extend one of the main routes on Canvey Island.

A consultation held last year on the Roscommon Way extension found 65% of respondents supported a revised route, which introduced new roundabouts and a stretch of dual carriageway.

Councillor Norman Hume, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: ‘We have listened to the concerns of residents and businesses in consultations on the extension, and have enacted the changes they wanted to see.

‘This project, together with work to upgrade the junction at Sadlers Farm, will help in the regeneration of Canvey Island with commitments for almost £80M of investment to improving road links on the island – more per head of population than anywhere else in Essex.’

Essex will look to early contractor involvement (ECI) as a means of ensuring rigorous control over costs.
