Council’s healthy approach to buying fuel saves cash

Wokingham Borough Council has managed to reduce its fleet fuel bill, despite the soaring costs of petrol and diesel.

The council was one of the first to take the opportunity to buy fuel through the NHS purchase and supply agency, which uses its buying power to purchase at a reduced rate.

The council estimates it has saved about 6% on its fuel bill since April by joining this arrangement.

But the council admits the impact of increased fuel costs for transport contracts – such as school buses – has not yet been assessed fully, as many contacts are still running.
