Councils get several chances to stave off intervention

 
Local traffic authorities will get a number of chances to improve their network management duty performance before the Government takes intervention.
The Department for Transport published long-awaited guidance on the criteria that will be used to judge councils' performance under the Traffic Management Act duty, and when ministers will consider them to have failed. Before an intervention order is made, the Department would usually approach a council informally then through an 'intervention notice'.
