Councils confident airport sale price could go sky high

Leeds Bradford International Airport has been formally put up for sale this week, with bidders already showing an interest in one of the last publicly-owned sites to come on to the market.
The airport is jointly owned by the five West Yorkshire councils of Bradford, Leeds, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
It is valued at around £14M, but recent airport transactions – including London City Airport which sold for £750M and Exeter Airport sold for £60M – have convinced council bosses they may get far more.
A joint statement released by the authorties said: ‘We are all delighted to be able to present Leeds Bradford International Airport for sale to the market at this important time in its ongoing development.’
The airport has achieved strong growth in passenger numbers in recent years, averaging an annual growth rate of 11% a year since 1995, and currently attracts 2.6M passengers every 12 months.
