Council unveils 15-year strategy for Boston

Lincolnshire County Council’s executive has adopted a transport strategy for Boston, in a bid to tackle serious transport worries in the area.
The strategy, revealed this week, aims to guide transport improvements for Boston over the next 15 years, and beyond.
The announcement follows results of a transport study into the town in which residents were asked for their views through a questionnaire.
William Webb, executive councillor for highways said: ‘This strategy will enable us to fund and get on immediately with some much-needed improvements to the town centre, as well as look towards a medium to long-term strategy to help us tackle current traffic and transport problems in Boston.
‘The aim is to make the town and its surroundings a more attractive and accessible place to live, work and visit.
‘The council’s strategy will now be reviewed on a regular basis.’
In the short term, improvements will include public transport services, revamping the existing A16/A52 main roads, car parking improvements, traffic management measures, encouraging more walking and cycling.
The plans also feature longer-term improvements such as a new distributor road, a rail upgrade and a new bus station if West Street development does goes ahead.
