Council promises car club spaces

Kirklees Metropolitan Council is planning to roll out designated parking spaces for car club members across the constituency.

Initially, a total of six parking spaces within Huddersfield town centre will be utilised by car club vehicles, but the council hopes the pilot schemes will be developed fully to benefit all Kirklees’ residents.

The council recently set up a car-sharing scheme, which has saved almost 36,000t of carbon dioxide and 120,000 car journey a year since it started.

Cllr David Hall, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: ‘We are all feeling the pinch at the moment, and this is a good way to help both the environment and the pocket.’
