Council acts to boost road safety

Oxfordshire County Council has taken a thespian approach to remind its teenagers of the importance of road safety.

The local authority’s road safety team has commissioned a play called 'The decision', which raises awareness of the reasons why teenagers are involved in accidents.

The move was prompted by new statistics which revealed those aged between 12- and 15-years old are most at risk.

Julie Jones, the council’s road safety officer, said: ‘Analysis of our casualty data showed the overwhelming majority of teenage pedestrian accidents were the pedestrian’s fault, with distraction and failing to look properly the most common reasons. The trouble seems to be young people have so much going on that is, to them, far more important than their safety.
