Congestion reduction boost

 
Congestion on the strategic road network has fallen by 13% since March last year, official figures reveal.


The latest Department for Transport statistics show congestion has declined steadily since summer 2007 as the recession has taken hold. Provisional figures for the year ending May 2009 show the average vehicle delay on the slowest 10% of journeys fell to 3.39 minutes per 10 miles, down from 3.90 minutes in the baseline year ending March 2008.


The final figure for the year ending April 2009 is an average vehicle delay of 3.41 minutes per 10 miles, representing a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%.
