Compulsory recycling set for trial at Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest is to become the latest London borough to introduce compulsory recycling with the launch of a pilot scheme in September.

The initial trial will cover five wards bounded by the North Circular Road in the south, Hall Lane/New Road in the north and the borough boundary’s to the east and west, with the scheme being phased in across the council during 2007.

Cllr Bob Belam lead member for environment, said: ‘Residents have responded well to recycling but it is time to up the ante and ensure everyone does their bit. The council wants to recycle 28% of the borough’s household waste this year to keep ahead of the Government’s tough recycling targets.’
