Commuters put in the picture about benefits of cycling

To celebrate the first anniversary of becoming a cycling demonstration town, Brighton & Hove City Council has this week launched a billboard campaign on key commuter routes and congestion black spots.
Designed by local artists, the billboards compare the health, environmental and financial benefits of cycling in comparison with car use.
One of the billboards is located adjacent to a barrier railway crossing, where waiting motorists are told driving is ‘zero exercise’ while cycling ‘burns 600 calories an hour’. The authority is also flushed with success after figures showed its personal travel planning had seen a 71% increase in cycling since July.
