Colourful show offers Blackpool illuminating options

A consultation is under way into the proposed new route for the A585, designed to cut congestion between the Fylde coast and the highway networks, as well as reducing traffic around Blackpool.
Lancashire County Council is asking residents of Fylde on five different route options, with costs varying from £96M to £190M
The cheapest, yellow route provides the most direct route between the M55, but will do little to relieve congestion around Blackpool.
The most expensive red route will reduce congestion around Blackpool, but will pass close to residential area,s and have ‘significant environmental impacts.’ The £104M blue route will be good for Blackpool’s congestion, but runs through a floodplain – which could lead to construction problems.
The £114M pink route and the £129M purple route will also have a limited impact on congestion.
Tony Martin, cabinet member for sustainable development, said: ‘At this stage, we want to look at the whole range of possibilities and not rule anything out.’
