A road bridge spanning a railway line partly collapsed over the Easter weekend, less than a year after work to strengthen and widen it was completed.
The work on the Caville Railway Bridge near Howden in East Riding, Yorkshire, was carried out by Network Rail, and completed in May 2005. But cracking appeared in the carriageway surfacing on the northwest side of the bridge on 21 March.
Network Rail inspected the site and organised remedial works to be carried out on 6 April. But on 15 April an inspection carried out by
East Riding Council found the road to be in a partial state of collapse.
Work is being carried out to fix the bridge, which is currently only open to single-file traffic.
