Colindale prepares to open for business with gateway project

Barnet Council has secured an extra £2M from the London Development Agency to enhance its project to create a gateway into Colindale.

Work has already started on the £10M scheme to replace two Victorian railways bridges with new structures which will open up the area to public transport, provide pedestrians access and ease traffic flow in both directions.

Now the council has obtained an additional £2M from the LDA to lower the carriageway, allowing clearance for double-decker buses to travel down Aerodrome Road for the first time and use the route to serve Colindale.

Cllr Matthew Offord, Barnet’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: ‘I’m delighted we have secured this extra funding. This means we are greatly increasing capacity for public transport to get in and out of Colindale.’ The additional work will take place in spring, after the new bridges have been slotted into position in December and January.
