Closer road links to speed up repairs

Cornwall Council is trialling a new highways scheme intended to help it work more closely with town and parish councils to deliver services more effectively at a local level.

The highway stewardship scheme is testing improved communications between the highways department, local councillors and parish or town councils.

The trial will enable teams to get valuable information from local councils about ‘hotspot’ problems.

Highways teams will contact local parish or town councils in areas that they know rural maintenance teams are working in so they can highlight any concerns they have while work is under way nearby.

Paul Allen, highways regional engineer, said ‘We chose the Wadebridge and Padstow area to test our scheme because it will provide a variety of situations for us to trial.’
