Cliff-stabilisation project gives beach community the humps

Plans for a £70,000, trial beach-stabilisation project to reduce severe cliff failures at Dunwich will start next week.
The Cliff Beach stabilisation project is expected to be a low-impact stabilisation exercise, whereby sand and shingle humps will be created along the beach. These are intended to prevent the beach eroding and protecting the cliffs from the impact of the waves.
Suffolk Coastal District Council is managing the project after agreeing to a partnership with Dunwich Parish Meeting and the Environment Agency recently. The Dunwich Parish Meeting, which had been leading the project since 1997, has now asked the district council to take over. Work is expected to be completed in four weeks’ time.
