Conservatives at Maidenhead and Windsor RBC have passed a motion to start the process of issuing ASBOs to clampers.
The move comes amid concerns that the town of Windsor is being plagued by firms charging tourists hundreds of pounds for returning late to private car parks.
Cllr Phil Bicknell, who proposed the motion, said: ‘These firms are making a fortune by clamping tourists, with little or no real justification. Our reputation as a town and as a tourist destination is being damaged, and we must take radical action.’
The council has responded to the Department for Transport’s consultation on clamping by demanding an outright demand.
The Government is proposing that private companies will now need to sign up to an accredited trade association.
