City to cut fringe parking

Nottingham City Council is to clamp down on unauthorised public car parking which is threatening regeneration and encouraging commuter use.

The temporary sites are located on the fringe areas of the city centre and provide parking provision for more than 350 vehicles at just £3-£4 a day. All have been recently developed without planning permission and encourage commuter use, according to a council report.

The council has now agreed to take enforcement action, under Section 172 of the Town and Country Planning Act, to secure an end to the use of the land for parking.
