City takes flexible approach to create parking spaces

Edinburgh City Council has given the go ahead for plans to create 700 flexible parking bays for residents and tourists.

The spaces will be available for either pay-and-display use by residents with parking permits.

Up to 700 spaces are to be created in Marchmont, the Grange and Sciennes areas of the Scottish capital.

Transport leader, Phil Wheeler, said: ‘Shared use bays help to manage the high demand for parking spaces in the city, and balance the needs of residents, visitors and shoppers.

‘Monitoring the controlled parking scheme allows the council to ensure that spaces continue to be available for those who need them the most.’
Plans to start a consultation process were given the go ahead at a meeting on Tuesday.
