The historic heart of Oxford will be stripped of clutter as the council plans to breathe new life into the town centre.
~Oxfordshire County Council~ began work this week on the £850,000 project to resurface the carriageway and lay York Stone slabs on widened footways on the High Street. As part of the project, all bollards, most signposts and a bus stop will be removed. Signs will be placed on nearby buildings, where owners have given permission.
The scheme is being project managed by the county council, designed by Jacobs Babtie and carried out by Isis Accord. An advisory cycle route will be signed allowing cyclists to avoid the road works.
