Chelmsford residents take to river clean-up like ducks to water

Professional divers took part in a clean up of rivers in Chelmsford and the surrounding area at the weekend.

Chelmsford Borough Council organised the event and its staff, local organisations and residents were encouraged to help.

Divers from the Orca Scuba Diving Academy collected rubbish from the river depths, and boats manned by teams of local Sea Cadets were on the water picking up floating debris.

Cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Janette Potter, said: ‘Rather than a chore, the annual litter pick by the river is a fantastic community event.
‘Seeing such a variety of organisations and residents taking obvious care and responsibility in how their borough looks is refreshing. I would like to thank everybody who commits time and takes part in this year’s autumn clean.’
