Charging ahead to clean up

 
London Borough of Hackney has handed a £51,000 bill to Network Rail to cover the cost of clearing litter, and is taking action to get rid of rats on railways lines running through the London borough.
The council claims it has cleaned bird droppings under railway bridges and removed flyposters and graffiti on 1,122 different occasions since April, and warned that council taxpayers could not be expected to meet the cost.
