Cartoon characters put residents in the picture about salvaging refuse

Dacorum Borough Council is turning heads with its humorous new approach to promoting recycling among its residents.
The Hertfordshire authority’s 25 refuse and recycling vehicles have been adorned with caricatures of the crew members.
The eight billboard posters focus on a recyclable item – such as newspapers, garden waste and plastic bottles – and illustrates how they can be recycled into new products, using a ‘funny illustration’.
David Austin, waste services manager, said: ‘Our crew members are the focal point of our campaign because they are the ambassadors of the service.’
Dacorum has increased its recycling rate from 12% in 2003 to 45% in 2006.
