Carbon dioxide levels hit new high

 
The EU’s environment and industry commissioners, Stavros Dimas and Günter Verheugen, have set a 2012 deadline for car manufacturers to ensure that the average new car emits no more than 130g of CO2 per kilometre.
The target is an increase from the 120g level initially advocated by Dimas, and follows disagreement over the impact the lower level would have on the competitiveness of the EU’s car industry.
