Carbon cutdown campaign

Transport minister Gillian Merron has launched a campaign to encourage drivers to cut down on carbon dioxide emissions.
The Department for Transport initiative is the first to be launched under the cross-government ‘Act on CO2’ campaign.
It encourages drivers to improve fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions with a website giving tips on how to ‘drive smarter’ and a chance to put the advice into action in a new online game.
The DfT claims that if all drivers in the UK followed the smarter driving tips, CO2 emissions from cars could be reduced by 8% - or over 5.5M tonnes of CO2 a year, saving an estimated £2bn in fuel costs.
