Canter lorry will gallop to rescue of Nottingham’s flood-hit folk

Nottinghamshire County Council has purchased a new vehicle to help combat future flooding in the county.

The 7.5t Mitsubushi Canter tipping lorry, which cost £70,000 and was converted by the county council, will enable the authority to find and fix drainage problems more efficiently.

The vehicle includes a colour CCTV recording system, which can scan drainage pipes and culverts up to 120m in length to identify problems, and a high-pressure jetting and pumping system to help clear blockages.

The equipment will be supported by the large towed suction pump which currently attends large-scale floods throughout the county. Cllr Stella Smedley, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: ‘The vehicle will by no means prevent or solve future flooding problems but it will go some way to preparing us more effectively for large-scale flooding.
