Camden awards grants to travel-conscious schools

Camden Council has offered grants to nine local schools that have successfully completed or updated their annual school travel plans.

The schools have received funding for equipment and projects such as covered bike racks and pedometers to encourage students to take more sustainable means of travel.

Elsewere, the start of the new school year signals the introduction of changes to the council’s parking dispensation permits, which reduces the number of permits and gives priority to young children and those with temporary needs.

Each permit number is split into a morning and afternoon permit, making it easier for parents who car pool to share permits.

Cllr Mike Greene, executive member for environment, said: ‘Through the changes to our parking dispensation scheme, we believe we have strengthened a sustainable policy that encourages parents to consider other ways of getting their children to school than by car.’
