Call to fight foreign flouting

MPs have called on the Government to take action against foreign-registered vehicles which flout traffic laws.
In a recent debate on parking policy and enforcement, transport select committee chair Gwyneth Dunwoody, and shadow roads minister, Owen Paterson, both pressed the Government about lack of data on overseas vehicles. The issue was recently raised by the SPARKS programme, made up of organisations involved in traffic enforcement across the capital (Surveyor, 11 January 2007). SPARKS programme manager, Bill Blakemore, said: ‘There is a growing sense of urgency within local government about the need to take action on foreign vehicles contravening our traffic laws.’
