Busway project takes route as pre-cast beams are laid

A major landmark in the construction of the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway was reached this week when the first pre-cast beams were laid on the western link towards St Ives.

The first of around 2,500 beams, which will be needed for the track between the new Longstanton park-and-ride facility and St Ives, were laid. Each weighs almost 15t. With 10km already completed by the gantry, the busway will soon be the longest in the world. It is scheduled to open in spring 2009.
