Buses fail to catch on

Major changes are being proposed to a Norwich bus service, started only seven months ago, after patronage was well below expected levels.
Funding is likely to be exhausted by next March, 16 months after services started, due to lower-than-expected usage for the service, which won £1.2M of ‘urban bus challenge’ funds for its first three years.
Councillors were due to recommend changes to stem the haemorrhaging of funds this week, including scrapping the evening service, revising the route to include Norwich airport and areas where many elderly residents live, and new promotions.
