Bus line penalties drop

The number of bus lane penalties issued in London has dropped by 51% in two years, new figures reveal.

The figures show that 288,394 fewer penalties were issued between April 1 2006 and 31 March 2007 compared to the previous year.

This is in addition to the 137,638 fewer tickets issued in 2005/06 from 2004/05 – resulting in a total reduction of more than 426,000. Analysis of the figures from Transport for London and the capital’s boroughs also shows that 67% of the cases heard by the adjudicators were won by motorists.
