A pay-as-you go pilot cycling scheme has been launched in Bristol city centre.
Bristol City Council has contributed £12,000 towards the Hourbike project, and is keen to explore how the scheme could be widened using the local authority’s Cycling City funds.
The bikes are available from four hubs situated at key locations in the city, and more than 300 people have already signed up for the service online.
Cllr Jon Rodgers, the council’s cabinet member for transport, said the pilot provided an opportunity to see what kind of demand there could be for a widespread network. ‘Similar schemes have had some success in other cities but it’s not clear yet whether it will really catch on in a big way here.’
