Bright outlook for Neath Port Talbot

A £15M scheme to replace more than 17,000 streetlights across Neath and Port Talbot has been given the go-ahead.

The seven-year project will commence thanks to a 25-year partnership between the county borough council and a private supplier. It is expected to begin late next year.

Ageing and obsolete equipment will be replaced, along with the cable network, with new lanterns producing white light.

Under the proposals, the supplier will provide the capital funding and, with the council, provide day-to-day cost-effective maintenance over the contract period.

Council leader, Ali Thomas, said: ‘When completed, Neath Port Talbot will have one of the most up-to-date systems in the country bringing tremendous benefits to residents.’
